Our Story
The Creation of Makuahine Shop
"Makuahine" translates to "Mother" Shop in English. We are a mother-daughter duo handmaking Hawaiian style items to add a little Aloha to anyone's home.
Everything we handmake is made with passion, experience, and lots of Aloha (Love). Although we are not Hawaiian ourselves, we always show respect for the culture. We do our best to always have kuleana (respect, responsibility) to share and add education along with our products.
Please support our family business and share with your family and friends. If you have been to Hawai'i, are from Hawai'i, or just love Hawaiian items, please consider browsing our creative, handmade items for your home.
During the Pandemic in 2019-2020 we had started hand making Hawaiian patterned masks for the community at very low costs to help spread a little joy during such hard times. These were a complete hit and we decided to take our crafting passions to another level.
We both have been dancing hula in a Halau (school) in Toronto, Ontario for over 20+ years and have traveled back and forth to Hawai'i multiple times a year through the years. Melissa (daughter) got engaged and married in Hawai'i while Val (Mother) has been vacationing and celebrating their wedding anniversaries there. It has truly become a second home for us and a culture we cherish.
